[ In sharing the room with Rey, one half of the room (Jean's) is fairly neat and orderly with the exception of stacks of books and the few bags of items she still has on the floor from their latest planet-side venture. Rey's side of the room, however, is what one would call an organized mess. It's junk and scrap that Rey has collected and Jean knows it's... natural for the scavenger to keep it with her but it still makes Jean sigh heavily some days when she looks up and sees it all.
She eyes the pillow, though, lifting it up and sending it floating over to her. She takes it in her hands and looks it over, tracing the pattern with a finger. ]
[He looks at the visual divide of space and doesn't go poking through Rey's stuff but it kind of reminds him of home as well. Or at least reminds him of his basement, dolled up in stolen street signs. He might end up having some scavenging habits in common with Rey, though he's gotten a bit better since his teen years.
Rounding back to where Jean is:] Just picture, a weird alien stop sign above the bed. Cool tapestry? We'll get you set eventually. Big picture of me you can frame? Eh? Eh?
[Yes, he's trying to avoid the reason he came here - and talking about his father in general.]
[ The pillow ends up in her lap, arms folded on it. She knows what he's doing and knows better than most how bad it is to keep things buried or shoved to the side. ]
Peter.
[ The door closes and raises her brows to him. ]
Do you want to talk about it?
[ In his mind: And don't act like you don't know what I mean. ]
[He sort of swivels around on his heels like the topic is something tangible on a plate in front of him that looks so unappetizing he doesn't want to touch it. Yet he knows he should, and just sort of resignedly sighs before moving over toward her bed. He gives her one glance and a fraction of a few seconds to voice any disagreement before he'll flop down on it and stare up at her ceiling.]
You know what would look good up there? Those glow in the dark stickers. [He says, eyes trained upward but - it's just one last breath before his eyes glaze a bit and he stops focusing on what he sees.]
It was weird? I can't believe I actually did it. Just... said it like that.
[ She watches him silently, giving him the chance to make the choice. She believes it's better to get it out but if he would rather decline the offer, she would accept that, too.
She smiles some at the mention of the stickers, the fleeting thought sent to him, Maybe if we ever find any. Because he's not wrong. ]
Maybe your mind knew it was time before you did. That happens sometimes.
[ She tries to press her lips into not smiling, because oh boy does she know. She was mad at the time but looking back on it now? It was a little funny. And it honestly needed to happen. She just had no idea Peter would be the catalyst for it. ]
Yeah, it's true.
[ She sighs through her nose, ]
But I think maybe it was more than that. I mean, you wanted to tell him before. Maybe being around him in a different setting helped. Did you feel like you could be more open with him?
Sort of. [Every interaction with Erik's been... weird. He's enjoyed it, getting to know him before and after the whole reveal - but it's always had a strange weight to it. Like he's been trying to absorb everything he can and not fuck anything up.
He covers his face with his hands, talking through them:] We're gonna meet up again and talk since before was kinda just. Unexpected. I didn't have notes, he didn't have notes. Y'know?

Doubt that'll happen anytime soon.

I always blurt out stupid shit, though. My mouth just likes to run faster than my brain can keep up with it.
[He turns his head to look at her, raising his brows. We all know #crutchesgate] You know first hand how that goes.
